Steps

  1. 1

Whisk the warm water, yeast and honey together. Let sit 10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of the flour with the olive oil, egg, salt and yeast mixture.

  3. 3

Knead for about 10 minutes, working in up to 1/2 cup more flour if needed for a smooth dough.

  4. 4

Transfer to a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  5. 5

Punch the dough down and cut it into 4 equal pieces.

  6. 6

Roll each piece out into a rectangle, roll it up into a log and tuck the ends in a little. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  7. 7

Cover and let rise another 30 minutes.

  8. 8

Score the tops, brush with olive oil, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning and the cheddar-Parmesan mixture.

  9. 9

Bake at 375°F for about 15 minutes, until golden.

  10. 10

Optional, for sandwiches: split a roll, add turkey and provolone and broil about 1 minute. Top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, banana peppers and spicy mayo.

I have an obsession with Subway's Italian Urban Cheese Bread, so I attempted to make it for lunches this week and they came out pretty good. One cup warm water, two teaspoons yeast, one tablespoon honey, whisk, let it sit for 10 minutes. It's been almost 10 minutes. In my mixing bowl, I have three cups of flour, adding two tablespoons olive oil, one egg, two teaspoons salt, and the yeast mixture. Need for about 10 minutes. Transferring to a greased bowl, cover and rest for one hour. It's been an hour. Gonna punch the air out. Gonna cut this into four equal pieces. Then to shape them, I'm gonna roll them out into rectangles, then roll them, tuck the ends in a little bit. Then onto a baking sheet with some parchment paper. It should look like this. Cover and one more rest for 30 minutes. It's been 30 minutes. Going to score them, brushing on some olive oil, sprinkle some Italian seasoning. Then this is a mixture of cheddar and Parmesan into the oven at 375. I took them out after about 15 minutes. Okay, wait, they look so good. Okay, doing some turkey, provolone, broil for like a minute. Then I have some lettuce, tomato, red onion, banana pepper, and some spicy mayo. How do they do this so easily at some weight?
